en.Wedoany.com Reported - The Baltic Container Terminal (BCT) recently received a new ship-to-shore crane manufactured by ZMPC, as part of an investment plan implemented in cooperation with the Port of Gdynia Authority, aimed at modernizing the port and strengthening its position as a key logistics hub in the Baltic Sea region.

Piotr Gorzeński, President of the Port of Gdynia Authority, stated that this investment is of significant importance for the long-term development of the terminal and the entire Port of Gdynia. He noted that the port has been advancing infrastructure modernization for years, including dredging approach channels and quays, as well as developing modern terminals and logistics facilities, and the delivery of the new crane marks the completion of a critical phase in this process. He believes these investments enable Gdynia to serve the most demanding customers and handle increasingly advanced logistics operations, thereby solidifying the port's position as a modern and competitive logistics hub in the Baltic region.

The new equipment will enhance terminal throughput capacity, improve BCT's ability to handle larger container vessels and more challenging logistics operations, while increasing transshipment process efficiency, operational predictability, and reducing cargo handling times.

Wojciech Szymulewicz, CEO of BCT, stated that this is a significant phase in BCT's development in Gdynia in recent years, substantially enhancing the terminal's operational capacity. The terminal continues to invest in equipment and infrastructure to handle increasingly demanding logistics operations and meet customer expectations in the Baltic market. The new crane will improve operational efficiency and strengthen the hub status of BCT and the Port of Gdynia.

The investment utilizes public funds and is implemented through public-private partnership, forming part of a broader process of port infrastructure modernization. The equipment procurement received financial support from the National Recovery and Resilience Plan (KPO) under project number KPOD.09.09-IW.02-0033/24 "Equipping the BCT intermodal terminal with modern transshipment equipment," demonstrating the role of combining national infrastructure investment with terminal operator development in enhancing Poland's logistics competitiveness and resilience.

Each crane has a lifting height of 55 meters, a working outreach covering 25 rows of containers on deck, and a height of 140 meters when the boom is raised. The lifting capacity is 65 tons under the spreader and 75 tons under the hook. With these technical parameters, BCT can handle all vessel types navigating the Baltic Sea.

The cranes will undergo testing and preparation work, with full commissioning scheduled for June 2026, marking the symbolic completion of one of the most important phases of BCT's modernization and Port of Gdynia infrastructure development in recent years.
