en.Wedoany.com Reported - Nick Andersen, acting director of the U.S. Cybersecurity and Infrastructure Security Agency (CISA), announced Wednesday that the agency plans to issue a directive to federal agencies by the end of this week, detailing actions required to implement the president's artificial intelligence executive order.

Speaking at the TechNet Cyber conference in Baltimore, Andersen stated that this binding operational directive will partly focus on "vulnerability mitigation and vulnerability management." He also revealed that CISA will roll out "specific AI access permissions" to partners in the coming days.

The AI executive order released on Tuesday is a scaled-down version of an earlier draft. The earlier version was shelved due to internal government conflicts and concerns raised by former AI and cryptocurrency czar David Sacks. The latest version requires companies to voluntarily submit models to the government for testing 30 days before public release, whereas the original version required 90 days.

Andersen noted that the potential risks posed by certain models warrant consideration, but he also focused on how AI can enhance cybersecurity defenses. "How do we actually use it as a good defensive tool? How will it help us reduce attack surface exposure?" he said.

Andersen stated that CISA will play a key role in helping establish the "cyber clearinghouse" envisioned by the executive order and will also access models for review. He added that the government needs to do significant work to address the increasingly threatening environment. "The bigger problem we need to solve here is that we have significantly deferred issues in our IT infrastructure. Devices running in our environment are at end of life, with limited services... Our adversaries can reach and impact us."
