en.Wedoany.com Reported - Weima Maschinenbau GmbH has expanded its W5 series single-shaft shredder product line with the introduction of the new model W5.22, designed for hard plastics, films, and tear-resistant fibers.

The W5.22 offers easy access to the rotor and shredding chamber via a built-in rear inspection door.

This model made its debut at the K 2025 trade fair, featuring a rotor length of 86.6 inches and a rotor speed range between 50 and 200 rpm, depending on the drive configuration. The V-type rotor is designed to handle large start-up blocks, hollow bins, and other bulky parts, while the F-type rotor employs a blade arrangement specifically tailored for shredding flexible materials such as fibers or films. The maximum number of blades is 218, with available blade sizes of 40mm, 60mm, and 80mm, and the standard counter knives can be adjusted from outside the cabinet. The hopper opening measures 86.6 inches by 78.7 inches.

The series also includes two smaller shredder models: the W5.14 with a 55.1-inch rotor and the W5.18 with a 70.9-inch rotor. All W5 series shredders use Siemens PLCs and can also control peripheral equipment including conveyors, separation technology, and secondary shredders, with an optional remote control available.

At the K 2025 trade fair, the W5.22 was equipped with a Baumüller hydraulic drive. Subsequently, the drive system was upgraded to a high-torque drive incorporating a servo controller. This direct drive system was developed for demanding applications involving difficult-to-shred materials. The motor delivers high torque even at low speeds, and power transmission is optimally utilized due to precise coordination between the drive and the rotor shaft. According to Weima, this innovative drive concept enables energy-efficient, economical, and sustainable operation.

Integrated into the shredding chamber is a pendulum feeder. Material falls onto the rotor by gravity and is continuously or periodically pressed against the rotor by a hydraulically movable pendulum feeder, with an optional additional pressure feature for the feeder. The W5.22 offers easy access to the rotor and shredding chamber; once the pendulum arm is secured in the upper position, the built-in rear inspection door can be opened hydraulically.
