Cellcard stated that its 5G network currently has 500 base stations, covering approximately 50% of Phnom Penh's population and the Techo International Airport. In February this year, a report from Cambodia's Ministry of Posts and Telecommunications showed that Cellcard had deployed 289 5G base stations in Phnom Penh and Kandal Province. Meanwhile, Metfone, under Vietnam's Viettel Group, has deployed 531 5G base stations in key areas of Phnom Penh and several provincial capitals. Last month, Smart Axiata announced the deployment of 750 5G sites across 21 provinces.

Cellcard's coverage strategy focuses on dense urban deployment and indoor coverage, targeting areas including large shopping malls, government ministries, national institutions, business districts, convention centers, luxury hotels, universities, schools, hospitals, medical facilities, tourist attractions, entertainment venues, and sports stadiums.

Cellcard CEO Yap Kok Leong stated that the company plans to expand 5G coverage to over 1,000 sites in Phnom Penh, Ta Khmau, and major regions of Cambodia by the end of July 2026. In a statement, he said the company is building an efficient network focused on delivering fast, robust indoor coverage, seamless mobility, and reliable home connectivity. As Cellcard accelerates nationwide deployment and strengthens Cambodia's digital ecosystem, more 5G sites will continue to be rolled out throughout 2026.
