en.Wedoany.com Reported - Anglo American has partnered with Brazilian startup Piagam to launch a digital platform focused on water resource management in mining environmental challenges. The platform, named the Integrated Water Resource Data Management System (SIGRHI), aims to integrate environmental data to support decision-making, enhancing efficiency and transparency.

SIGRHI utilizes artificial intelligence and cloud storage technology to consolidate large volumes of data previously scattered across different systems and manual controls into a single environment. Rafael Miranda, an environmental engineer at Anglo American, stated that the system integrates information on residual flow, water intake, turbidity, and water quality parameters, providing a comprehensive and reliable perspective on water resource management.
The system also enhances governance capabilities, enabling traceability of information from over 300 water quality and quantity monitoring points. Miranda added that data is published immediately upon collection, combined with structured information processing, which helps reduce errors, rework, and inconsistencies, while facilitating audits, sustainability reporting, and communication with regulators, communities, and investors.
The platform includes an operational alert system that supports decision-making and enables rapid response from operational teams. Marcos Araújo, Managing Director of Piagam, noted that the system ensures traceability and transparency through on-site data recording via an application, cloud storage, and access control, with smart alerts quickly identifying abnormal results.
SIGRHI originated from an open innovation challenge launched in 2021 and has been operational at the Minas-Rio project since the beginning of this year. Araújo believes that the platform, developed within the context of the Mining Hub, is an example of collaboration between startups and large companies producing high-impact solutions. For Anglo American, it brings improvements in efficiency, control, and intelligence; for the startup, it means technical validation, scalability, and market access.
Juliana Bedoya, Director of Environment at Anglo American, stated that investing in digital solutions is crucial for addressing mining environmental challenges. Technology enables companies to predict risks, optimize processes, and enhance transparency in environmental management, while also helping to build a more responsible relationship with the regions in which they operate.
