en.Wedoany.com Reported - SNCF Réseau (French National Railway Company Network Division) and Bruitparif (Paris Region Noise Observatory) have renewed their partnership for the third time, continuing to develop and operate a railway noise measurement network to track noise changes and enhance information sharing.

The Île-de-Fregion accounts for only 2% of France's territory but concentrates 40% of the country's rail traffic, with an average of 6,300 trains running daily. Over the past decade, railway noise has been significantly reduced due to substantial investments in modernizing railway infrastructure, constructing noise barriers, renewing rolling stock, and implementing residential soundproofing programs. However, as the rail network traverses densely populated urban areas, controlling noise from train operations, maintenance, and construction remains a major challenge.

Since 2017, the collaboration between Bruitparif and SNCF Réseau has established a large-scale noise monitoring station along railway lines in the Île-de-France region. The network currently comprises 14 permanent monitoring stations that collect measurement data in real time, supplemented by temporary measurements conducted at the request of local authorities or associations. All data is publicly available on the platform reseau.sncf.bruitparif.fr, which now aggregates over 1,200 measurement points for use by local stakeholders, experts, and the public.

Over the past three years, the partnership has achieved several advancements: new permanent measurement stations have been built, including one installed in Conflans-Sainte-Honorine as part of the Paris-Seine-Normandy large-scale railway project observatory. The data query platform regularly adds data analysis features, measurement points, and new functionalities, such as detecting railway noise peaks. Additionally, a study called GENIFER was conducted in Savigny-sur-Orge (91 department) involving approximately 60 residents, analyzing the relationship between immediate annoyance and railway noise levels.

The new agreement for 2026-2029 will further expand efforts. Plans include deploying new stations in Drancy and the Maisons Alfort-Alfortville area, as well as conducting temporary measurement campaigns to assess noise changes before and after specific events, such as the launch of the CDG Express airport rail link, the installation of noise barriers in Maisons Alfort, and the replacement of the Gavignot railway bridge in Enghien-les-Bains. By leveraging extensive acoustic measurement data, the railway noise map of the Île-de-France region will be refined.

Séverine Lepère, Director General of SNCF Réseau for the Île-de-France region, stated that the partnership with Bruitparif is a key tool in their environmental commitments. Olivier Blond, President of Bruitparif, noted that both parties will continue to address high-exposure situations and test innovative equipment for noise reduction at the source.
