en.Wedoany.com Reported - Sopra Steria has released its first European study on autonomous agent commerce. Based on an exclusive survey of 8,400 consumers across eight countries, the study found that the potential market size in Europe exceeds €310 billion. The survey shows that 41% of Europeans do not trust any single provider to offer them shopping agents, with banks being seen as the most trusted providers by consumers.
The study reveals a series of key data points. 74% of European consumers believe online shopping presents difficulties. 55% of Europeans have already heard of agent commerce. In terms of willingness to delegate purchases, 45% would entrust the purchase of electronics and tech products to artificial intelligence agents, while this figure drops to just 16% for healthcare and food products. 27% of consumers consider banks the most suitable players to develop shopping agents.
Awareness of agent commerce varies significantly across Europe. Over half of Europeans (55%) say they have heard of the concept, with 13% claiming to be very familiar with it. Northern Europe leads in awareness, with Norway at 76%, the Netherlands at 68%, while Germany stands at 61% and the UK at 58%. Several Southern European markets, along with France (38%) and Belgium (44%), lag significantly behind. Online shopping is widespread in Europe, with only 2% of respondents saying they have never shopped online, but frequency varies greatly: 36% of Germans shop online at least once a week, compared to 19% of French consumers.
For European consumers, AI is primarily seen as a tool for making better decisions. 31% hope AI will help them make smarter decisions, 23% want to save time, and 22% aim to control spending. Consumers in France and Italy are more inclined to view AI as a means to make better decisions, while German consumers associate it more with efficiency and speed. However, nearly one in five Europeans (21%) still see no tangible benefits.
