en.Wedoany.com Reported - On June 10, the UK's electricity planning authority stated that under a reformed allocation system, grid access has been offered to over 700 projects, a move expected to unlock up to £40 billion in annual clean electricity investment.

The National Energy System Operator (NESO) revealed that these allocations were made following recent reforms, which replaced the previous "first-come, first-served" access system that had caused bottlenecks.

Kayte O’Neill, Chief Operating Officer of NESO, stated in a declaration: "These proposals provide developers with the investment certainty they need, supporting economic growth."

NESO stated that out of 1,223 projects in the pipeline for 2030, access offers have been made to 713 projects, covering offshore and onshore wind, solar, battery storage, natural gas, and hydropower. These projects collectively represent approximately 37 GW of capacity.

NESO also noted that achieving the UK's goal of largely decarbonizing the power sector by 2030 requires approximately 132 GW of capacity, while the country currently has about 111 GW installed.

According to a joint statement released by the Energy Networks Association (ENA) and network operators, as the UK develops its clean energy system, these projects are expected to unlock up to £40 billion in annual clean energy investment.

Projects must now meet stricter criteria, including obtaining planning permission, land rights, and alignment with the government's clean energy goals, to be considered for grid access.

Achieving the UK's 2030 target requires connecting more renewable energy plants, such as wind and solar, as well as constructing thousands of kilometers of new transmission lines.
