This milestone is of great significance in helping Zambia optimize its national energy structure and promote the development of renewable energy.
Located in Zambia's Central Province, the Lusensa Solar Photovoltaic Project has an installed capacity of 27 MW, and includes the construction of a 33 kV to 66 kV substation and two 66 kV transmission lines, each approximately 1 km long. The project fully utilizes the existing infrastructure of the hydropower station, organically combining solar power generation with hydropower regulation capabilities. Through a "solar priority, hydropower regulation" approach, it achieves multi-energy synergy, making it the first new energy project in Zambia built under the hydro-solar complementary model.
The project site features mountainous terrain with significant elevation differences and undulating topography. Facing challenges such as difficult shading control and high installation precision requirements, the PowerChina project team implemented a "one-slope, one-solution" approach. While maximizing land utilization, they achieved uniform bracket inclination angles and controlled the verticality deviation of columns within a high-precision target of ±0.5 degrees.
The PowerChina project team coordinated the deployment of personnel, equipment, and materials throughout the entire process of design, procurement, construction, and commissioning. They dynamically optimized construction plans and work interfaces, effectively ensuring the standardized implementation of various professional processes and full-process quality control of the project entity. The grid-connected power generation target was achieved 26 days ahead of the contract schedule, earning high recognition from the owner and other parties for proactive contract performance and high-quality delivery results.
The successful handover of this project further consolidates the company's brand influence in Zambia's energy market and provides a reference example for the country's exploration of integrated development paths between traditional hydropower and new energy.
