en.Wedoany.com Reported - Manchester City Council has approved the redevelopment of part of the former Crabtree Forge site into 124 apartments and 70 houses.

Keepmoat submitted an updated planning application for its Openshaw project last year, increasing the number of homes on the seven-acre Crabtree Lane site from 115 to 194. The apartments will be distributed across four buildings facing the Ashton Canal.

A total of 62 homes will be affordable housing, split equally between rent-to-buy and social rent.

Katie Dean, Keepmoat's Land and Partnerships Director for the North West, said the company is committed to creating high-quality, sustainable homes and thriving communities, with a focus on regenerating brownfield sites to create a well-connected, well-designed, mixed-tenure community that complements the surrounding area and delivers high-quality affordable housing. The site has been derelict for many years, leading to anti-social behavior, vandalism, and illegal fly-tipping. The plan will help the city transform disused industrial land, providing much-needed new homes and making the most of its canalside location. Keepmoat looks forward to working closely with partners to advance the plan and deliver a project that reflects the area's character, heritage, and long-term ambitions.

Euan Kellie Property Solutions provided planning consultancy, with JTP as the architect. Urban Green, Curtins, and Collington Winter also provided consultancy services.
