en.Wedoany.com Reported - Si Han, President of GSMA Greater China, recently pointed out in an interview that the mobile communications industry is transitioning from the mobile internet phase to a new realm of mobile AI. Mobile AI (mobile artificial intelligence) has become the core driver of industry iteration and upgrade. Coupled with innovations in the Token operations model and the evolution of 6G technology, the communications industry is undergoing comprehensive transformation.

In the field of Mobile AI, Si Han believes that, unlike traditional cloud-dominated AI architectures, Mobile AI is rooted in mobile communication networks, featuring distributed deployment, ultra-low latency, and global interconnectivity. At the Mobile World Congress (MWC) in Barcelona, GSMA, together with China's three major telecom operators, launched the "Mobile AI Innovation" initiative. Si Han stated that Chinese operators have become core partners in this initiative due to their 5G-A network construction and application standards, full-chain layout of AI models, cloud computing, and data centers, as well as the vast space for empowering various industries through the local AI ecosystem. GSMA has identified ten major industry topics, including AI-native networks, computing infrastructure, and digital-intelligent governance. Among these, building AI-native networks, solidifying the computing power foundation, and improving the digital-intelligent governance system are considered the three core priorities at this stage.
Token operations are seen as a new direction for operators to break free from the dilemma of "increasing traffic without increasing revenue." China's three major operators have already launched relevant packages, transitioning from "traffic operations" to "Token operations." Si Han remains cautious about this, believing that the key to transformation lies in leveraging computing power and AI capabilities to create real value in consumer markets and enterprise service scenarios. She pointed out that operators do not have inherent advantages in original large model technology development and developer ecosystem building, but their core competitiveness lies in their ubiquitous network infrastructure, highly sticky user base, comprehensive billing systems, and edge computing capabilities. Si Han predicts that it will be difficult for a single player to dominate the AI era, and open collaboration will become the norm.
In terms of 6G technology, the Ministry of Industry and Information Technology has officially approved the 6GHz frequency band for 6G trials, marking the entry of domestic 6G technology into the field testing phase. Si Han believes that AI is the underlying capability for 6G development, and future 6G networks will be native networks deeply integrated with AI. China possesses dual first-mover advantages: a solid foundation in 5G and 5G-A development, with comprehensive strength firmly in the global first tier; and innovation capabilities in the local AI industry ecosystem that are on par with international frontiers. The upcoming MWC 26 Shanghai exhibition will serve as a platform to showcase innovation capabilities and facilitate global industry exchange and mutual learning.
