en.Wedoany.com Reported - Telecom operator O2, in collaboration with cloud-native network software provider Mavenir, conducted a proof-of-concept trial applying network-based technology to improve call clarity for hearing-impaired customers. The trial results showed that nearly 90% of participants reported enhanced call clarity, making conversations easier to understand and reducing listening effort.

This feature operates seamlessly in the background, with participants using their existing phones and numbers as usual. The technology works as follows: participants first complete a brief automated hearing test to understand how they perceive different sound frequencies, generating a personalized hearing profile that is securely linked to their phone number. During calls, the network adjusts voice transmission in real time based on this profile, making conversations clearer and easier to understand. Unlike device-based accessibility features or third-party applications, the optimization occurs within the O2 network, and participants do not need to change how they make calls.

Mary Higgins, a profoundly deaf trial participant, said: "Even with my hearing aids, I usually find phone calls tiring and stressful. Making calls without hearing aids is nearly impossible. Using this technology was a completely different experience, as I could hear clearly without my hearing aids and didn't need to ask people to repeat themselves."

Jorge Ribeiro, Director of Core Networks at Virgin Media O2, said: "For many people with hearing loss, making a phone call can be a difficult and frustrating experience. This trial aimed to leverage the intelligence within our network to improve this experience without requiring customers to do anything differently. We are encouraged by the initial results of this proof of concept and look forward to exploring how such technologies can provide more accessible services for our customers."

Brandon Larson, Senior Vice President and General Manager of Cloud, AI, and IMS Business Strategy at Mavenir, said: "The core network is a powerful platform for service innovation and creating new value for customers. Our collaboration with Virgin Media O2 to improve the call experience for hearing-impaired customers is an excellent example of this."
