en.Wedoany.com Reported - JSW Energy has officially commissioned the 150MW Tidong hydropower project in Kinnaur district, Himachal Pradesh, India. This brings the company's total installed capacity to approximately 13,900MW.

This run-of-river plant, located in the Tidong Valley, was built by JSW Neo Energy Limited, a wholly-owned subsidiary of JSW Energy, and was commissioned ahead of its previously set target of October 2026. The plant is operated by Tidong Power Generation Private Limited, which has signed a long-term power purchase agreement with Uttar Pradesh Power Corporation Limited: selling 75MW of power at INR 5.57 per kWh from May to October each year.
As JSW Energy's fourth hydropower asset in Himachal Pradesh, the project further expands the company's hydropower portfolio in the region. JSW Energy noted that, benefiting from a favorable tariff structure and the timing of commissioning during the peak hydropower season, the Tidong project is expected to contribute earnings in fiscal year 2027. The plant is located adjacent to the company's Karcham Wangtoo hydropower station, enabling operational synergies.
Including the Tidong project, JSW Energy has added a cumulative 445MW of new generation capacity since the start of the first quarter of fiscal year 2027, comprising 225MW of wind power, 70MW of solar power, and 150MW of hydropower.
Sharad Mahendra, Joint Managing Director and CEO of JSW Energy, stated that the early commissioning of the Tidong project reflects the company's strong execution capabilities and ongoing commitment to building a high-quality, diversified generation portfolio. He noted that as India's largest private hydropower company, JSW Energy views hydropower as a key pillar for ensuring grid stability and providing round-the-clock clean electricity. The Tidong project not only strengthens the company's presence in Himachal Pradesh but also unlocks operational synergies through its proximity to Karcham Wangtoo.
JSW Energy currently has 32.1GW of locked-in generation capacity, of which 13.9GW is operational, 13.6GW is under construction (covering thermal, hydropower, and renewable energy), and 4.6GW is in the development pipeline. In terms of energy storage, the company has locked in 29.6GWh of capacity, including 26.4GWh of pumped storage hydropower projects and 3.2GWh of battery energy storage systems. JSW Energy plans to achieve 30GW of generation capacity and 40GWh of storage capacity by 2030, and has set a target of achieving carbon neutrality by 2050.
The Tidong project was previously acquired by JSW Energy through its subsidiary JSW Neo Energy from the Norwegian renewable energy company Statkraft, with an enterprise value of INR 17.27 billion. The acquisition marked Statkraft's divestment of a portion of its Indian asset portfolio, while expanding JSW Energy's hydropower footprint in Himachal Pradesh.
