en.Wedoany.com Reported - AT&T Business has expanded the coverage of its 400 Gb/s (400G) wavelength service to more than a dozen new U.S. metro areas, bringing the total to over 40 metro areas. This expansion aims to enhance high-speed network connectivity options for enterprise customers, particularly those focused on AI operations.

New network anchor points include: Ashburn, Virginia; Atlanta; Chicago; Columbus, Ohio; Dallas; Denver and Englewood, Colorado; Kent, Washington; Los Angeles; Miami; New York; Portland, Oregon; San Jose, California; Seattle; Secaucus, New Jersey; and Tempe, Arizona.
These locations will enable AT&T's wavelength borderless handoff capability, which connects 440,000 properties and serves over 2.3 million commercial tenants. New connection services at speeds up to 400G can be provisioned within 15 days.
AT&T links this expansion to its long-term partnerships with over 130 carrier hotels across the United States, leveraging borderless design to extend high-capacity wavelength connectivity without building traditional network edges at each location.
AT&T began its 400G work a decade ago, initially conducting trials with open platform routers, and in late 2019, it conducted trials with Juniper Networks. The carrier launched its current 400G service last year, promoting it as a way to accelerate the deployment of data-intensive enterprise workloads. The fiber service runs on Dense Wavelength Division Multiplexing (DWDM) technology and has been able to transmit up to 1.6 Tb/s (1.6T) of data on a single wavelength in lab trials. Customers could combine four 400G wavelength circuits using new 1.6T coherent technology, but supporting equipment needed to be purchased separately, and the service was only available in select markets. Other telecom operators, including Lumen Technologies and Verizon, are also advancing 400G to enhance connectivity capacity.
