en.Wedoany.com Reported - South Korea's Taihan Cable & Solution has signed Memorandums of Understanding (MoUs) with Belgium's Jan De Nul and Dutch maritime contractor Boskalis to collaborate on High-Voltage Direct Current (HVDC) submarine cable projects.
These agreements were signed at the "Korea-Europe Energy Transition Cooperation Forum" held in Brussels. Under the MoUs, the parties will expand cooperation in HVDC submarine cables and related infrastructure, and jointly explore opportunities in the energy transition and offshore power transmission markets.
Taihan Cable stated that these partnerships integrate its cable manufacturing, installation, and project execution capabilities with the expertise of Jan De Nul and Boskalis in offshore wind, marine infrastructure, and submarine cable installation. The company said these agreements will enhance its competitiveness in both domestic and international HVDC submarine cable markets.
This collaboration comes as Taihan Cable expands its submarine cable business. The company is building a second submarine cable manufacturing facility in Dangjin, South Korea, which will be capable of producing 640 kV HVDC cables once operational.
Taihan Cable has also strengthened its installation capabilities. In addition to the "Palos," which the company describes as Korea's only dedicated cable-laying vessel, Taihan Cable recently acquired the 10,000-ton cable-laying vessel "Skandi Connector."
According to Taihan Cable, these investments support its strategy of providing integrated manufacturing, transportation, and installation services for global offshore power transmission projects.
Song Jong-min, Vice Chairman of Taihan Cable & Solution, stated that the Korea-Europe Energy Transition Cooperation Forum provides an opportunity to strengthen partnerships with excellent European companies and gain new growth momentum in the global market. He expects these agreements to enhance the global competitiveness of South Korea's power and energy industry, strengthen technical and business capabilities in the key HVDC grid sector, and expand the role and position of Korean companies. Song added that Taihan Cable plans to continue expanding opportunities in the global submarine cable and power infrastructure market through technical expertise, quality competitiveness, and global networks.
