en.Wedoany.com Reported - Teijin Frontier Co., Ltd., a subsidiary of the Teijin Group, announced plans to install new equipment at its Matsuyama Plant in Ehime Prefecture for the production of OCTAIR™ polyester thermal insulation fiber. The investment amounts to several hundred million yen, and the company aims to expand the capacity of OCTAIR™ products through this move, in response to the growing global demand for high-performance down alternatives in the apparel and bedding sectors. Production using the new equipment is expected to begin in March 2027.

OCTAIR™ thermal insulation fiber features a unique hollow eight-wing cross-section with radial protrusions. Its thermal insulation performance is comparable to that of down of the same weight. The fiber utilizes the voids formed by its structure to achieve ideal loft and lightweight properties. Additionally, OCTAIR™ offers a soft, smooth touch and dimensional stability, enabling a smoother filling process compared to traditional polyester filling fibers.
In recent years, driven by factors such as insufficient down supply and rising production costs, global demand for down alternatives has continued to grow. In response, Teijin Frontier developed OCTAIR™ in 2024 and launched trial sales. To address anticipated further demand growth, the company will achieve mass production of various OCTAIR™ materials, including products containing polytrimethylene terephthalate (PTT) fibers or recycled polyester fibers. The newly added pretreatment, spinning, and drawing equipment will be used to enhance existing capacity, ensuring stable and scalable supply of OCTAIR™ thermal insulation fiber. Production is planned to start at several hundred tons per year, with a target of reaching approximately 1,000 tons by 2030.
