en.Wedoany.com Reported - South African manufacturing will showcase a range of locally developed technologies and products at the 2026 Electra Mining Africa exhibition, aiming to boost production capacity and expand markets. Currently, South Africa's manufacturing output is below installed capacity levels, with factors such as weak demand, stagnant domestic growth, import competition, and high input costs putting pressure on the growth prospects of the manufacturing sector, making it difficult for local manufacturers to achieve economies of scale.

Despite these challenges, local manufacturers maintain world-class standards in technology and problem-solving, possessing extensive human resources and expertise, making them a key driver of South Africa's economic growth and job creation. Charlene Hefer, Portfolio Director at Montgomery Group Africa, stated that local manufacturers will leverage this marketing opportunity to generate business leads and develop industry partnerships, which can boost sales growth within 12 to 18 months after the exhibition.

The exhibition will be held concurrently with the Southern African Manufacturing Expo, featuring exhibitors from the mining, industrial, electrical, power, automation, and transportation sectors. Products include mine ventilation monitoring solutions, noise reduction technology, locally produced consumables and critical spare parts, as well as slurry control knife gate valves for metallurgical applications, high-pressure pinch valves, metering systems, distribution boxes, and process samplers. Additionally, a local water storage solutions supplier for mining applications will also participate.

Exhibitors will showcase multiple technological innovations, including a local solution for retrofitting diesel particulate filter systems on Tier 2 and Tier 3 engines, which helps mines comply with new mine health and safety regulations related to diesel particulate matter without replacing entire fleets of older engines. Another highlight is the locally designed and manufactured Neutral Earthing Compensator Resistor Transformers (NECRT), used for transformer ground fault management, ensuring that critical protection equipment is locally produced, supported, and maintained.

Many South African manufacturers have overcome growth constraints through export operations. Demand for locally manufactured goods continues to grow in other parts of Africa, and locally produced industrial mixer sand gearboxes have been exported to the United Kingdom, Malaysia, Australia, New Zealand, the United States, and Chile. The exhibition will also feature innovative pumps designed specifically for the agricultural and construction industries, which do not rely on electricity and reduce total customer ownership costs, as well as locally assembled new industrial gearboxes aimed at improving availability, shortening delivery times, and supporting high-torque applications in Africa.

As part of the free attendance program at the exhibition, the Southern African Institute of Mining and Metallurgy (SAIMM) will host a seminar theater during the event. The Society for Automation Instrumentation Mechatronics and Computer Engineering (SAIMC) will hold an industry seminar on the second day of the exhibition. Electra Mining Africa 2026 will take place from September 7 to 11, 2026, at Nasrec in Johannesburg. Visitors can register at www.electramining.co.za.
