en.Wedoany.com Reported - On June 22, 2026, the Global Cement and Concrete Association (GCCA) held the "Building a Sustainable Future: The Path to Low-Carbon Cement and Concrete" conference at County Hall in London, as a key part of London Climate Action Week.

In his opening remarks, Robert Fry, Deputy High Commissioner of Canada to the United Kingdom, called on new partners to join the "Cement and Concrete Breakthrough" coalition. The coalition currently has 14 member countries and is advancing 11 key initiatives, with members including Ethiopia and Turkey, which will serve as the incoming presidencies of the United Nations Framework Convention on Climate Change Conference of the Parties (COP).

Adam Auer, President of the Cement Association of Canada, subsequently presented Canada's decarbonization strategy, stating that its core lies in modernization and productivity enhancement. He emphasized the need to improve the policy environment to ensure that investments can sustainably drive demand growth.

The panel discussion focused on topics such as expanding demand for low-carbon materials, driving transformation in developing countries, and financing commercial projects. Participants noted that current obstacles include a lack of strong government policy signals, necessary operational adjustments, and user-side difficulties in promoting alternative cement products in the bagged cement sector. At the same time, the panel highlighted success stories, such as India's new regulation requiring 100% utilization of fly ash, and the collaboration between Ghana's standards authority and calcined clay producer CBI Ghana.

At the conclusion of the conference, GCCA launched the Innovandi Open Challenge 2026 Accelerator Program, with a focus on soliciting artificial intelligence projects for the cement and concrete manufacturing sector. The application deadline is August 20, 2026.
