en.Wedoany.com Reported - Skyborn Renewables has signed a 600-megawatt (MW) power purchase agreement (PPA) with Amazon for electricity from the Gennaker offshore wind farm in the German Baltic Sea. The deal is reportedly the largest single PPA ever signed in Germany.

Under the agreement, Amazon has committed to purchasing a portion of the carbon-free electricity generated by the Gennaker wind farm over the long term. Developed by Skyborn Renewables, the wind farm has a total installed capacity of 976.5 MW and, once completed, will become the largest offshore wind facility in the German Baltic Sea.

The project site is located approximately 15 kilometers north of the Fischland-Darß-Zingst peninsula in Mecklenburg-Vorpommern. Construction is expected to begin after financial close in the summer of 2026, with operations scheduled to start before the end of 2028. The wind farm will consist of 63 turbines, each with a capacity of 15 MW.

Adam Thomsen, Chief Development Officer at Skyborn Renewables, stated that the agreement with Amazon marks a significant milestone for Gennaker and the company. As a flagship project, Gennaker demonstrates how large-scale offshore wind can be delivered in a reliable and scalable manner. He noted that it also reflects the growing need to connect renewable electricity generation with robust and forward-looking infrastructure to build resilient energy systems. Thomsen expressed great pride in his team for achieving this goal. The project, with an investment of 3 billion euros ($3.44 billion), is expected to boost the local regional economy. The monopile foundations for the turbines will be manufactured by EEW Special Pipe Construction (EEW SPC) in Rostock, approximately 40 kilometers from the wind farm.

Amazon's agreements related to the Gennaker project in Germany bring its carbon-free energy portfolio to 12 projects, with a total capacity exceeding 1.3 gigawatts (GW). Once all projects are operational, they are expected to generate electricity equivalent to covering the annual consumption of more than 1.8 million German households annually.

Rocco Bräuniger, Amazon's Country Manager for Germany, Austria, and Switzerland, noted that long-term cooperation between the public and private sectors is key to advancing Germany's energy transition. By signing the country's largest PPA, the company provides certainty for Skyborn to advance the Gennaker project, helping to connect nearly 1 GW of new offshore wind capacity to the grid, strengthening energy security, and supporting local jobs and investment.

In September last year, Skyborn Renewables completed the contracting of all major components for the Gennaker offshore wind farm.
