en.Wedoany.com Reported - Italian utility company Edison has completed the overall repowering project for its wind energy assets in the Abruzzo region. Following the completion of this Italian wind repowering project, Edison's installed wind capacity in Abruzzo has increased from the original 114 MW to 186 MW, covering nine local wind farms.

The total investment in this round of the Abruzzo wind repowering project exceeds 200 million euros. The project was carried out in two phases, implemented from 2019 to 2021 and from 2025 to 2026 respectively. After the repowering, the number of wind turbines in the ridge area was reduced from 173 to 47, while the annual power generation increased to 355 GWh, approximately 2.5 times that before the repowering.

Fabio Lamioni, CEO of Edison Rinnovabili, stated: "This demonstrates how it is possible to balance increased renewable energy production, a reduction in the number of turbines and better integration into the landscape." With the completion of the 186 MW Abruzzo wind repowering project, Italy's existing wind energy assets will form a new repowering model in terms of turbine replacement, power generation efficiency improvement, operation and maintenance optimization, and regional power supply.
