en.Wedoany.com Reported - Co-hosted by the China Special Steel Enterprises Association and Fubao Information, the 5th Alloy Scrap Steel Supply-Demand Resource Matching Conference was held on June 25, 2026, in Hangzhou, Zhejiang. Nearly 200 representatives from special steel production enterprises, alloy scrap steel recycling, processing, and trading companies, industry associations, and equipment manufacturers attended the conference. The event focused on the theme "High-Quality Recycling of Alloy Scrap Steel."
Alloy scrap steel is an irreplaceable core recycled raw material for special steel production, containing high-value alloying elements such as chromium, nickel, molybdenum, vanadium, and tungsten. Zhao Fazhong, Deputy Secretary-General of the China Special Steel Enterprises Association, pointed out in his report that alloy scrap steel is not only "urban mining" but also a strategic fulcrum for the special steel industry to transition from a "linear economy" to a "circular economy." Compared with primary alloy ores, using compliant and high-quality alloy scrap steel can significantly reduce smelting energy consumption and pollutant emissions, making it a key lever for special steel enterprises to lower production costs and practice green manufacturing.
The conference noted that the high-quality recycling of alloy scrap steel offers triple value: first, it alleviates the high dependence on foreign alloy elements by efficiently retaining limited strategic resources such as nickel, chromium, and molybdenum within the production cycle system; second, carbon emissions from electric arc furnace short-process steelmaking are reduced by approximately 70%, serving as a critical pathway for special steel enterprises to fulfill their "dual carbon" commitments; third, compared with traditional blast furnace ironmaking, it significantly shortens production cycles and reduces raw material costs.
Zhao Fazhong stated that currently, China's electric arc furnace steel output accounts for about 10% of total crude steel production, far below the world average of approximately 25% in Japan, 55% in South Korea, and 30% in Germany. This is a structural weakness but also a core growth space for green and low-carbon transformation. The "15th Five-Year Plan" period will be a critical time for rapidly increasing industrial concentration in China, with the industry shifting from scale expansion to comprehensive quality and efficiency upgrades. Chen Yunhua, General Manager of the Steel Raw Materials Division at Fubao Information, stated that alloy scrap steel is more energy-efficient, lower in carbon, and more cost-competitive, providing important support for steel enterprises to optimize raw material structures and ensure the stability of the industrial chain and supply chain.
This matching conference established an efficient platform for exchange and cooperation between alloy scrap steel suppliers and demanders, helping to advance the industrialization process of high-quality alloy scrap steel recycling.
