en.Wedoany.com Reported - China Telecom, YOFC, and Dekoli have jointly completed the world's first field trial of a data transmission system based on hollow-core fiber.

Leveraging the world's largest commercial cross-border hollow-core fiber communication link, engineers achieved a total transmission capacity of 51.3 Tbit/s over a distance of approximately 206 kilometers without using intermediate signal amplifiers.

Unlike traditional fiber, hollow-core fiber transmits signals through an air channel rather than a glass core. This design reduces latency and potential losses, while creating conditions for significantly increasing transmission capacity, offering substantial value for backbone networks and large data centers.

During the trial, engineers introduced adaptive control of transmission rates for each wavelength and dynamic power allocation between channels, enabling the entire communication link to optimize its operation in real time without relying on fixed parameters.

Additionally, the project team developed a new optical amplifier architecture and equipped the system with emergency shutdown functions and fault alarm mechanisms to enhance the operational safety of high-power optical lines.

The developers stated that this successful trial confirms the practical application potential of hollow-core fiber in next-generation networks.
