en.Wedoany.com Reported - Unity Metals (ASX:UM1) has commenced a 3,000-meter diamond drilling program at the O'Phlay gold project in eastern Cambodia. The company noted that exploration has identified intrusion-related gold mineralization, a characteristic similar to its Ngot project and Emerald's (ASX:EMR) Okvau gold mine.
The 21-hole drilling program primarily targets the Camp prospect, where recent geophysical surveys have identified robust conductivity and resistivity features. Although no modern drilling has been conducted previously, O'Phlay has shown extensive surface mineralization.
Founder and Managing Director Craig Mackay stated that the company is excited about its first drilling at O'Phlay, marking the second project to enter the drilling phase since its Initial Public Offering (IPO) in January. He noted that recent geophysical surveys have identified multiple robust targets in the area, associated with strong gold and soil arsenic anomalies, as well as historical gold mining zones. These historical mining areas expose broad zones of gold-bearing stockwork vein mineralization, representing the most extensive surface mineralization discovered by Unity in its Cambodian gold projects.
Approximately 2,250 meters of the planned drilling will be allocated to the Camp prospect, aiming to initially test two parallel north-south trending chargeability anomalies. Previous vertical channel rock chip sampling from this mineralized zone returned grades of 5.5 meters at 2.10 g/t gold, with a horizontal stockwork width of approximately 40 meters.
The remaining 750 meters of drilling will test the Small Creek prospect, located near historical gold mining zones adjacent to a granodiorite intrusive contact. Rock chip samples from this area have returned assay results of up to 37.10 g/t gold.
Local contractor Corexplo Khmer Drill Services is executing the drilling program, with initial assay results expected in mid-August. Unity Metals is a gold and copper exploration company focused on Southeast Asia, with a portfolio of projects in Cambodia and Thailand.
