en.Wedoany.com Reported - Led by the Webuild Group, the IRICAV Due Consortium, on behalf of Rete Ferroviaria Italiana (RFI, part of FS Engineering, a company of the FS Italian Group), has completed the installation of a new overpass near the Verona East interchange on the A4 Brescia-Padua motorway, in the municipality of San Martino Buon Albergo (Verona). This project is part of the first functional section of the Verona-Vicenza junction and is included in the National Recovery and Resilience Plan (PNRR).

The overpass is designed to connect the motorway network with the Verona East toll station and will replace the existing bridge, which is still in use. The old bridge is scheduled for demolition after the new road layout is opened to the public. These works are necessary for the construction of a new artificial tunnel for high-speed and high-capacity railways, which will pass beneath the Verona East motorway interchange, the A4 motorway alignment, and the eastern ring road.

The structure features an arch bridge design with a single span exceeding 60 meters. The steel deck consists of two parallel arches with heights varying from 1.65 meters to 7.8 meters; the roadway width is 17.4 meters, accommodating two lanes each 6 meters wide. The new overpass is equipped with an advanced seismic isolation system.

The installation was carried out at night, taking less than six hours to minimize traffic disruption. After the deck was assembled on site, it was lifted onto four steel towers and then moved into position using six transporters. The total weight of the transport convoy was approximately 900 tons, with the deck itself weighing 700 tons. All safety checks were completed by 4:00 AM, and the motorway was reopened to traffic two hours ahead of schedule.

This overpass is part of the broader first functional section of the Verona-Vicenza junction, a commissioner-led intervention also funded by PNRR resources. This section spans 44.25 kilometers, crossing 13 municipalities between the provinces of Verona and Vicenza. Within this section, the IRICAV Due Consortium has completed civil works, railway track laying, and the technical systems required for start-up testing, inspections, and commissioning, paving the way for the line's opening.

The entire Verona-Padua high-speed and high-capacity railway line, measuring 76.5 kilometers, aims to complete the high-speed rail connection between Milan and Venice. This project is also part of the Mediterranean Corridor of the Trans-European Transport Network (TEN-T), contributing to the integration of major European logistics axes.
