en.Wedoany.com Reported - Northumbrian Water has completed a £4.6 million investment project to enhance water supply capacity in County Durham, UK. The project modernized the network near Westerton, Bishop Auckland, benefiting residents of the village and Coundon, and following final commissioning, will further extend services to areas such as Ferryhill and Kirk Merrington.
Engineers laid an 850-meter-long water main, extending from the A688 road up to Westerton, and connected it to pipelines supplying nearby towns and villages. The project also included the construction of a new pumping station to protect water supply along the route and improve water pressure. Additionally, the work enabled the decommissioning of an old treated water storage reservoir in the village.
The project was carried out by Northumbrian Water's partner, Esh-Stantec. Victoria Jobling, Project Manager at Northumbrian Water, stated that this investment has increased the security of water supply for residents in Westerton and surrounding areas. The region's geography has historically caused water pressure issues, but the new pumping station and other network upgrades have resolved this, significantly improving the customer experience. She also noted that the team's prolonged presence in a small community had an impact, and every effort was made to minimize disruption, thanking Westerton customers for their patience and understanding. The final commissioning work will not affect the village, with only a small team operating at various points in the community.
