en.Wedoany.com Reported - Dow recently announced several targeted investments, totaling approximately $100 million by the end of 2027, to expand its global specialty silicone manufacturing and innovation capabilities. These investments will increase specialty silicone capacity in the United States, China, and Japan, with a focus on advanced silicone materials and processing capabilities to meet growing global demand in the mobility, electronics, and healthcare sectors.

Brendy Lange, President of High-Performance Materials and Coatings, stated that these investments underscore Dow's commitment to scaling specialty silicone materials, enhancing proximity to customers, and accelerating innovation. By expanding manufacturing and innovation capabilities in these strategic regions, Dow is investing to meet rising consumer demand, strengthen global supply chain capabilities, and help customers commercialize innovations faster.

Specific investments include: expansion of liquid silicone rubber manufacturing, involving projects in Carrollton, Kentucky, and Zhangjiagang, China, expected to commence production in 2027, supporting high-performance applications in mobility, electronics, and healthcare; capacity expansion for engineered silicone materials to support advanced electronics applications (including power electronics, semiconductor packaging, thermal protection, and electrical protection), with production slated to begin this year in Songjiang, China, and Fukui, Japan, and additional expansions in Auburn, Michigan, and Zhangjiagang, China, expected to be completed by 2027, strengthening Dow's specialty materials innovation and manufacturing backbone; and expansion of cooling science laboratories, with the Shanghai, China, laboratory expanded earlier this year and the Midland, Michigan, laboratory expanded in June, aiding in the development and scaling of next-generation thermal management solutions to accelerate customer innovation.

Dow noted that in mobility, electronics, and healthcare applications, product performance, supply reliability, and technical capabilities are critical, and demand for specialty silicones continues to outpace GDP growth. These investments aim to align capacity with customer needs through regionalized, localized manufacturing, thereby supporting these trends.
