The contract includes an initial order for 20 bidirectional trams, with an option for an additional 18 vehicles. It also covers long-term maintenance and overhaul services, with Škoda responsible for the entire lifecycle of these trams. The total contract value is €270 million.

The tram line in Uppsala is currently under construction and is scheduled to open in 2029. The trams supplied by Škoda will then operate along the entire line. The manufacturer stated that this contract marks an expansion of the group's business in the Nordic region.

Jan Christoph Harder, President of Škoda Group for Western and Northern Regions, said the contract confirms the company's position as a partner in modern and efficient public transport in the Nordic region. Uppsala is building a new tram system, and the company's vehicles will be part of this transformation. The new trams will feature proven technology adapted to Nordic conditions, offering comfort, accessibility, and safety for passengers, drivers, and the urban environment.

The trams Škoda will supply to Uppsala are based on its Tampere tram platform, which has demonstrated operational performance under Nordic conditions. Using a proven platform reduces technical risks while allowing customization of the vehicles to Uppsala's needs. Each tram is 38 meters long, with 100% low-floor and bidirectional design.

Škoda stated that each tram has 80 fixed seats and a capacity of 186 passengers based on 2.5 passengers per square meter. Each vehicle is equipped with three double doors and two single doors on each side to facilitate efficient passenger flow.

The tram specifications include USB charging ports, passenger information systems, flexible spaces for wheelchairs and strollers, enhanced visual and audio guidance, and advanced climate control systems.

In terms of digital technology, these trams will also be equipped with a collision avoidance system designed to prevent collisions with vehicles, pedestrians, and obstacles. Additionally, the trams include an intelligent speed limiter system that automatically adjusts speed on curves and other designated sections.

The new tram network will include 17 kilometers of double track and 22 stops. It will connect key areas, including the university and hospital district, transport hubs, and Uppsala Central Station. The project is being developed jointly by the City of Uppsala and the Uppsala Region to promote regional development.
