en.Wedoany.com Reported - AD Ports Group has signed an agreement with Emirates Global Aluminium (EGA) to jointly invest $22.8 million in a multi-phase upgrade of EGA's dedicated terminal at Port of Khalifa in the UAE.

The project aims to modernize EGA's dedicated port infrastructure to accommodate Newcastlemax bulk carriers. Compared to the Capesize vessels currently berthing at EGA's terminal, these ship types can carry 15% to 20% more cargo. The upgrades will enhance terminal productivity, operational efficiency, and overall cargo handling capacity. Construction is expected to be completed by August 2028, with the upgraded terminal projected to handle approximately 8 million tons of bulk cargo annually. The project will also increase operational flexibility by installing additional unloading facilities.

The optimization plan includes improving existing breast walls, installing new bollards and fenders, extending crane rail beams and foundations, adding utility connections, and dredging works. These improvements will collectively ensure the safe and efficient berthing of larger-draft vessels while supporting the anticipated growth in future bulk cargo throughput.

Saif Al Mazrouei, CEO of the Ports Cluster at AD Ports Group, stated that the agreement underscores the company's commitment to investing in world-class port infrastructure to support the UAE's continued industrial and commercial growth, while also strengthening its strategic partnership with Emirates Global Aluminium. Through long-term collaborative investments, both parties are enhancing the capacity of key commercial infrastructure. Abdulnasser Bin Kalban, CEO of Emirates Global Aluminium (EGA), said that Port of Khalifa is a strategic gateway for EGA's global operations, and the partnership with AD Ports Group will strengthen the long-term capability, efficiency, and performance of its dedicated terminal at the port, ensuring the safe and reliable handling of essential raw materials to support operations.

This collaboration further solidifies the long-term strategic partnership between AD Ports Group and EGA, reflecting their shared focus on operational excellence, infrastructure resilience, and sustainable industrial growth.
