en.Wedoany.com Reported - U.S. building materials company Amrize recently completed the cement supply for the roller-compacted concrete (RCC) portion of the Gross Reservoir Dam expansion project in Boulder County, Colorado. Upon completion, this project is expected to become the world's largest concrete dam raised using RCC.

The expansion project raises the dam height by 131 feet to 471 feet. Once fully completed, the reservoir's storage capacity will increase from 42,000 acre-feet to 119,000 acre-feet, effectively tripling its capacity. The RCC phase transforms the original conventional concrete gravity dam into a concrete arch dam, the first application of such a structure in the region.

Amrize supplied 75,000 tons of U.S.-manufactured OneCem Portland limestone cement to the project's general contractor, the Kiewit-Barnard Joint Venture. The cement was produced at Amrize's cement plant in Portland, Colorado, and used to produce approximately 740,000 cubic yards of RCC and over 68,000 cubic yards of foundation concrete, making this one of the largest RCC placement projects in North America in recent years.

Patrick Cleary, Senior Vice President of Amrize's U.S. Cement and Supply Chain, stated that this project required exceptional performance, consistency, and reliability on a massive scale. OneCem provided the properties needed for RCC construction, while the local team leveraged Amrize's terminal network across the state to ensure uninterrupted material supply to the remote mountain site.

Final project activities, including spillway construction and reservoir preparation, are expected to continue through 2027. The project will enhance water security for millions of residents in Colorado's Front Range region, one of the fastest-growing areas in the United States.
