en.Wedoany.com Reported - Tata Communications has announced a $152 million investment in submarine cable infrastructure to enhance network connectivity between Mumbai and Chennai in India and Singapore, aiming to strengthen the link between India's emerging AI hubs and Southeast Asia.

This investment plan will provide high-capacity, low-latency connectivity for critical cloud, enterprise, and hyperscale traffic, thereby facilitating easier access to digital services. Genius Wong, Executive Vice President and Chief Technology Officer of Core and Next-Generation Connectivity Services at Tata Communications, stated that as global demand for digital and AI-driven services continues to accelerate, these investments aim to build future-proof digital infrastructure at scale.

The investment includes a new submarine cable system from Mumbai to Singapore, though no completion timeline has been specified. Additionally, Tata Communications will participate as a consortium member in another new submarine cable system connecting Chennai to Singapore, which is expected to be operational in the fourth quarter of 2029. These projects will complement the Tata Global Network—TGN-IA2, which was launched in 2025 and connects multiple regions in Asia with a capacity of 20 terabits per second per fiber pair.

Once operational, these submarine cable systems will be integrated with Tata Communications' terrestrial fiber network, which connects over 100 data centers in India. According to Mordor Intelligence, India's AI data center market is expected to expand at a compound annual growth rate of 21.08%, highlighting the demand for such infrastructure amid rapid growth.
