en.Wedoany.com Reported - The Cartagena Port Authority has signed a contract with Continental Obras y Mantenimiento for the demolition of facilities at the coal terminal, with a contract amount of €2,558,839.61 and a duration of eight months.
The project primarily involves defining and assessing the demolition of existing military facilities, which is a preliminary step for the remediation and treatment of the current soil, and a phase in the development of the land in the Escombreras Bay. Before proceeding with this work, the procedure for changing the public domain usage rights of the Escombreras land between the Navy and the Cartagena Port Authority must be completed.
The transfer of part of the coal terminal facilities has necessitated modifications to separate the land still used by the Navy. This arrangement is based on an agreement between the Ministry of Defense and the Cartagena Port Authority in this regard.
The Ministry of Defense and the Cartagena Port Authority signed an agreement in April 2021 to define their respective actions in the Escombreras and coal terminal areas of the Port of Cartagena.
The document also stipulates that the Navy must carry out modifications to the coal terminal facilities to facilitate the future transfer of adjacent land to the Port Authority. The objective of this project is precisely to define the works that the Cartagena Port Authority needs to undertake at this terminal.
