en.Wedoany.com Reported - French energy group EDF has officially announced its role as the first founding partner of the organizing committee for the Alps 2030 Winter Olympic and Paralympic Games. Building on its commitments to the London 2012 and Paris 2024 Olympic and Paralympic Games, EDF will provide its low-carbon electricity and electrification solutions, aiming to help host a more responsible and sustainable event while accelerating the transformation already underway in mountain regions, making this edition a catalyst for electrification in France and its mountainous areas.
EDF operates a large number of low-carbon power generation facilities in the Alpine valleys, including hydropower plant dams, nuclear power plants, wind farms, and solar power stations, with tens of thousands of employees working in the region. The group will mobilize its expertise to support local governments around several priorities. These include providing competitive, autonomous, and low-carbon electricity; supporting the electrification of transportation, particularly within and around mountain resorts; improving the energy performance of sports venues, tourist facilities, and the Olympic Village; and showcasing the group's innovations in hydropower, water management, energy efficiency, and energy services. Through its subsidiaries and specialized fields, particularly its hydropower operations division, IZIVIA, EDF Corporate Services, and Hydrostadium, the group is committed to making the Alpine region an energy innovation hub serving residents, local governments, and tourists.
With 35 years of support for French sports, EDF is dedicated to helping address environmental and social challenges. The company promotes values of sustainable responsibility, sharing, diversity, gender balance, and inclusion by supporting four federations—French canoeing, disability sports, swimming, and football—as well as the Team EDF athlete group, which embodies the highest level of sportsmanship.
Bernard Fontana, Chairman and CEO of EDF, stated that the Alpine region, especially its hydropower dams, holds a central place in the group's history. By becoming the first partner of this event, EDF aims to contribute its expertise to a shared vision of making this edition a driving force for energy transition in mountain areas. Edgar Grospiron, President of the Organizing Committee for the Alps 2030 Winter Olympic and Paralympic Games, noted that EDF's commitment is a strong signal, and the shared ambition is to prove that the Winter Olympic and Paralympic Games can be environmentally friendly and responsible, leaving a tangible legacy for Alpine communities.
