en.Wedoany.com Reported - LG Electronics announced the establishment of a Robot Business Center, reporting directly to CEO Lyu Jae-cheol. The unit will become effective on July 1, 2026, aiming to strengthen the company's core capabilities in commercializing robot solutions and accelerate growth in strategic areas.

The center operates as an end-to-end business organization, covering business development, sales, and operations, and is led by Song Si-yong, who previously headed LG's Production Engineering Research Institute. This restructuring comes four months earlier than the regular annual reorganization, highlighting a strategic focus on Physical AI-based robotics.
One of the pillars of the new center is the establishment of a dedicated data factory organization to support robot training. LG is building a large-scale data factory at its Yangjae R&D campus in Seoul, with plans to begin operations this year. The collected high-quality operational data will be used to accelerate the development of LG's Robot Foundation Model (RFM).
LG plans to strengthen its robot governance structure, aligning with the "One LG Solution" strategy that consolidates the capabilities of LG Group companies. The company will also expand strategic partnerships with global technology leaders.
LG's robot market strategy is based on three pillars targeting industrial, commercial, and residential sectors. The new center will complement its product portfolio, including home robots, Robostar's industrial robot capabilities, and Bear Robotics' commercial robot expertise. The company has designated 2026 as the first year of robot business expansion, aiming to become a leading provider of Physical AI solutions.
LG will combine complete robot products, core components (such as actuators), and data generation capabilities, leveraging the full-stack ecosystem of LG Group to drive commercialization. The company is also preparing to leverage its over 60 years of experience in motor technology to produce actuators domestically, supporting future industrial supply.
LG Electronics' Portuguese subsidiary was established in 2003 and employs approximately 90 people. In 2025, the company achieved global revenue of approximately 52 billion euros, with the Portuguese market contributing 298 million euros.
