en.Wedoany.com Reported - The International Telecommunication Union (ITU) has launched the "AI for Good Global Commission," aimed at developing recommendations to expand AI accessibility, enhance trust in technology, and promote governance cooperation. The commission brings together representatives from governments, tech companies, and international organizations, co-chaired by Rwandan President Paul Kagame and Salesforce President and CEO Marc Benioff, with ITU Secretary-General Doreen Bogdan-Martin serving as permanent Vice-Chair.

The commission has over 40 founding members, including heads of state, leaders of multilateral institutions, and executives from tech companies. One of its priorities is discussing how to expand AI accessibility in developing countries. The ITU notes that 2.2 billion people worldwide still lack internet access, limiting the use of AI-based applications. The commission was established alongside several international conferences on AI and digital cooperation, including the UN General Assembly-mandated "Global Dialogue on AI Governance," the 2026 "AI for Good Global Summit," and the 2026 World Summit on the Information Society Forum. The commission's first meeting will be held from July 7 to 10 during the "AI for Good Global Summit."

The commission continues the multi-stakeholder model adopted by the "Broadband Commission for Sustainable Development," founded in collaboration between the ITU and UNESCO to promote connectivity, digital inclusion, and sustainable development. Scheduled topics for the commission include trust, digital infrastructure, inclusivity, capacity building, and international cooperation. Founding members include representatives from the GSMA, Microsoft, Google, Amazon, NVIDIA, Qualcomm, Orange, Vodafone, Anthropic, Cohere, and ZTE, as well as leaders from UNESCO, the World Trade Organization, the World Intellectual Property Organization, the United Nations Development Programme, and the African Union. The ITU stated that the commission's activities will be launched during the 2026 "AI for Good Global Summit," where its work agenda and priorities will be determined.
