en.Wedoany.com Reported - Karnataka Chief Minister D K Shivakumar recently inaugurated a 10.7 km long, 100-meter wide signal-free freeway corridor in Bengaluru. Named after former Chief Minister S M Krishna, the project, with a total investment of 6.31 billion rupees, aims to reduce travel time between Magadi Road and Mysuru Road from 60 minutes to 20 minutes. The corridor connects Kadabagere Cross and Challaghatta Metro Station, serving as a key link in the city's road network.

This 10-lane modern road features green boulevards, service roads, and dedicated bicycle lanes. The project includes three underpasses, 11 bridges, and a 270-meter tunnel. According to officials, the central median is 3 meters wide and has been designed to accommodate future metro lines. The project is seen as a faster, free alternative to the NICE Road.
Officials stated that the corridor traverses all nine blocks of the Nadaprabhu Kempegowda Layout and 11 neighboring villages, benefiting areas such as Kambipura, Kommaghatta, and Kenchanapura. This will provide a quicker route for commuters from Mysuru, Mandya, Hassan, Ramanagara, Kunigal, and Magadi, helping to alleviate traffic congestion on several major city arteries.
Shivakumar stated that the government will build a "Wall of Gratitude" to permanently honor the names of landowners who voluntarily provided land for the project, a practice planned for replication in other areas. Landowners along the corridor can choose compensation in the form of 35% commercial land, 40% residential land, or Transferable Development Rights. He noted that the current 11 km stretch will be gradually extended to form the 123 km Bengaluru Business Corridor, with tenders for the larger project already initiated. Additionally, the final notification for the section connecting Electronic City and Mysore Road is imminent, and work on a shorter tunnel near Hebbal will commence within the coming days.
