en.Wedoany.com Reported - Microsatellite company Axelspace Corporation has signed a service agreement with the Japan Aerospace Exploration Agency (JAXA) to provide on-orbit demonstration (IOD) services through its AxelLiner Laboratory, used to verify the performance of space equipment in an orbital environment.

Axelspace secures JAXA on-orbit technology demonstration service agreement

On-orbit demonstration involves launching satellite components and mission payloads into space and verifying their performance under orbital conditions. These components may include critical subsystems required for satellite operation, as well as equipment customized for specific missions. The space environment poses significant challenges to hardware, as components must withstand intense launch vibrations, extreme temperature fluctuations, radiation, and vacuum conditions. Consequently, space-grade equipment typically requires a proven track record of successful in-orbit operation. Although demand for IOD continues to grow, the process from project selection to launch often takes several years, making timely verification a challenge. Against this backdrop, government programs including Japan's Space Strategic Fund have prioritized the development of the domestic satellite supply chain, and the market is seeing rising demand for a satellite component development environment that enables rapid IOD.

To meet this demand, Axelspace offers the AL Lab service, specifically designed for IOD of space equipment. Leveraging the short development cycle and scalable mass production capabilities of the AxelLiner business, this service helps customers quickly verify components in a space environment. Under the agreement, Axelspace plans to provide AL Lab services for approximately four years starting from FY2026, supporting JAXA's basic research on high-maneuverability electric propulsion systems for spacecraft. Axelspace stated that it will continue to support global customers' space missions by providing space services such as satellite bus systems.
