en.Wedoany.com Reported - The People's Committee of Lam Dong Province has recently approved two solar power projects with a total investment exceeding 5.7 trillion Vietnamese Dong, expected to add 280 MW of installed capacity and over 540 million kWh of clean electricity to Vietnam's national power system. These two projects are regarded as key measures to implement the "Eighth Power Plan," helping to ensure energy security, promote green economic transformation, and support the province's goal of achieving double-digit economic growth in the coming years.
According to Decisions No. 3291 and No. 3292 issued by the Lam Dong Provincial People's Committee on July 3, the two projects are the floating solar power plant on the reservoir of the Dong Nai 2 Hydropower Plant and the Ea Pô 1 Solar Power Plant. The floating solar power plant on the Dong Nai 2 reservoir is invested by Trung Nam Hydropower Joint Stock Company, with a total investment of over 4.916 trillion VND, a designed installed capacity of 240 MW, and an expected annual power generation of approximately 464 million kWh.
The Ea Pô 1 Solar Power Plant is located in Da K'we Commune, with an investment of nearly 790 billion VND and an installed capacity of 40 MW. This project integrates a Battery Energy Storage System (BESS) with a power rating of 4 MW and a capacity of 8 MWh, which helps regulate power, reduce local overload, and improve the operational efficiency of renewable energy generation. The plant is expected to provide approximately 76.5 million kWh of electricity in its first year of operation.
Nguyen Ba Uoc, Director of the Lam Dong Provincial Department of Industry and Trade, stated that both projects are in line with the adjusted "Eighth Power Plan." Their significance lies not only in supplementing clean electricity but also in creating new development space for industry and commerce, driving the economic structure towards a modern and sustainable transformation. Once operational, the projects will create more job opportunities, increase fiscal revenue, and generate ripple effects across multiple sectors including construction, machinery, building materials, transportation, electrical equipment, and technical services.
The approval of investment for the two projects marks the beginning of the province's synchronized implementation of the "Eighth Power Plan." According to the plan, Lam Dong Province still has 30 power source projects that have not yet selected investors. To date, in addition to the two newly approved projects, the province has completed the review and investor selection for two other projects; 14 projects are under review, and 12 projects are undergoing further verification and planning site optimization to ensure feasibility before implementation.
Alongside developing power source projects, Lam Dong Province is accelerating investment in the transmission network system to ensure power absorption capacity. Procedures for the 500 kV transmission line project, as well as 220 kV and 110 kV substations and lines, are being expedited to ensure synchronized implementation, avoiding situations where power sources are developed but transmission infrastructure fails to meet requirements.
According to the Provincial Department of Industry and Trade, with a plan to develop nearly 15,000 MW of power sources by 2035 and ongoing power source and grid projects, Lam Dong Province is gradually establishing its position as an important energy center in the Central Highlands region. The implementation of the "Eighth Power Plan" will effectively tap into renewable energy potential, open up new development space for industry, trade, services, and logistics, laying the foundation for the province's rapid and sustainable development.
