en.Wedoany.com Reported - Yunex Traffic has been awarded a five-year extension to its traffic signal maintenance contract by Transport for Greater Manchester (TfGM). The partnership has been ongoing since 2011, during which time Yunex states it has implemented large-scale upgrades and modernization projects on over 1,800 signal locations.
Yunex notes that the project involved replacing more than 52,000 traditional signal lamp units with energy-efficient LED technology, reducing energy consumption by 50% and saving approximately £750,000 annually. TfGM Chief Executive Steve Warrener described Yunex as "a valued partner in maintaining and enhancing Greater Manchester's traffic signal network for over a decade," adding that its ability to deliver complex upgrade projects at scale, strong operational performance, and commitment to sustainability have played a significant role in supporting transport objectives.
Wilke Reints, Managing Director of Yunex Traffic UK, stated that since 2011, the ongoing collaboration has modernized the region's transport infrastructure, implementing large-scale upgrades to improve performance and deliver tangible sustainability benefits. The company claims that LED technology has enhanced visibility and reliability while significantly reducing energy consumption and operational costs; investments in infrastructure, communications, and intelligent traffic management have enabled TfGM to optimize traffic flow, reduce congestion, and improve overall network performance. Yunex has consistently maintained equipment availability rates between 98% and 99%.
To enhance sustainability, Yunex has transitioned its maintenance fleet to electric vehicles and states that since the contract commenced, 10 team members have been involved, providing expertise and stability across the network.
