en.Wedoany.com Reported - A developer has submitted an application to Kern County, California, for the construction of a 99 MW data center. The proposed site is located in the unincorporated community of Inyokern, near the intersection of U.S. Highway 395 and State Route 178. This single-story data center will occupy 238,000 square feet (22,110 square meters) and will include an on-site substation. The facility will feature six data halls, utilizing a hybrid cooling technology combining liquid cooling and air cooling.

The first phase of the project, with a capacity of 60 MW, is scheduled to begin construction in April 2027 and commence operations in November 2028. The campus, spanning 50 acres and located between U.S. Highway 395 and North Brown Road, will feature solar canopies over parking areas and be equipped with 40 diesel generators capable of providing up to 99 MW of emergency power.
The project was first made public in May 2026 and subsequently drew opposition. A petition on Change.org has gathered over 1,140 signatures. Regional labor and economic development groups have expressed support, while local organizations, including the City of Ridgecrest, Naval Air Weapons Station China Lake, and the Sierra Sands Unified School District, have submitted letters of opposition.
The Inyokern Airport has also requested an aviation impact analysis for the project.
