en.Wedoany.com Reported - Texas recently provided funding for the eighth Texas Energy Fund loan project, located in Ward County in the Permian Basin of West Texas, which will add 860 megawatts of reliable electricity, enough to power approximately 215,000 Texas households. Irving-based Vistra Corp. will construct the project, including two new natural gas units at its Permian Basin power plant, more than tripling the plant's existing installed capacity. The project is expected to begin supplying power to the Electric Reliability Council of Texas (ERCOT) in 2028.
Vistra President and CEO Jim Burke said on June 24 that reliable electricity is the cornerstone of Texas's continued growth, and that Vistra has been investing in and expanding its generation fleet for decades to help meet growing demand. He thanked Governor Greg Abbott, Lieutenant Governor Dan Patrick, Speaker Dustin Burrows, the Legislature, ERCOT, and the Public Utility Commission of Texas for their leadership in advancing solutions that promote economic growth. The company stated that the expansion of the Permian Basin power plant leverages existing infrastructure and efficiently utilizes a proven site to support the state's growing energy needs.
