en.Wedoany.com Reported - Vital Community Energi, the energy services division of Vital Energi, has signed an agreement with the Edmonstone Village residential project in Edinburgh to be responsible for the development, ownership, and operation of the community's energy center. This project includes 709 homes, with all heat produced centrally by a single energy center, and no individual gas boilers installed on-site in any residence.

Heat is generated by air source heat pumps at the central energy center and delivered to each household via insulated district heating pipes. Residents pay an annual fixed heating service fee. This permanent energy center is scheduled for commissioning in May 2027, with its core heat source being two cascading air source heat pump units, each consisting of three smaller heat pumps.

Kieran Walsh, Regional Manager at Vital Energi, stated that this project is not merely about designing and building an energy center for handover, but rather a long-term, forty-year investment in the community, including owning, operating, and maintaining the assets to provide stable heating assurance for incoming residents. He also noted that this means residents will receive well-managed, resilient, and reliable services, with prices not directly affected by fluctuations in the global gas market.

Avant Homes, the developer of this project, operates its Scottish regional office headquartered in Edinburgh and is advancing a £87 million project comprising 312 homes at Edmonstone Village. Iain Allison, Land and Special Projects Director at Avant Homes Scotland, stated that Edmonstone Village is an example of the residential construction industry's transition towards greener energy use, aligning with the Scottish government's environmental goals. He also noted that the partnership with Vital Energi ensures the development contributes to the government's net-zero emissions targets and the goal of phasing out gas boilers in new homes.
