en.Wedoany.com Reported - Red Eléctrica has completed the expansion of the 220 kV substations in Calera and Chozas, as well as the 220 kV substation in Torrijos, in the province of Toledo, Spain, with a total investment of approximately €3 million. The project aims to strengthen the transmission network in the Castilla-La Mancha region and support the future power supply for the railway axis connecting to Extremadura. Both projects have received operating permits and are scheduled infrastructure under the current transmission grid plan, financed by the European Union through the NextGenerationEU program and the Recovery, Transformation and Resilience Plan.

Red Eléctrica, a subsidiary of the Redeia group, is responsible for the transmission and operation of Spain's electricity system. At the two substations, the company has added new 220 kV bays. At the Calera and Chozas 220 kV substation, two new bays have been added to consolidate its role as a transmission network node, meet new electricity demand—particularly from high-consumption users—and strengthen the power supply to surrounding productive industries. The expansion of the Torrijos 220 kV substation also includes two new bays, primarily aimed at providing power for the railway axis connecting Castilla-La Mancha and Extremadura, an infrastructure considered strategic for electrified rail transport and regional coordination.

Both projects are included in the transmission grid plan, designed to respond to the need for infrastructure adaptation to new industrial, railway, and regional demands. The operating permits have already allowed the expanded sections of the two Toledo substations to enter service. These projects are part of the development initiatives being carried out by Red Eléctrica to provide Castilla-La Mancha with a more robust and denser transmission network, improving the security and quality of power supply while facilitating the integration of new electricity demand in the region. The interventions in Toledo are also linked to the deployment of key infrastructure for railway electrification, particularly the expansion of the Torrijos substation, which enhances the power supply capacity for the corridor connecting Castilla-La Mancha and Extremadura.

Through these expansions, the province's transmission network has gained new 220 kV bays, increasing operational capacity and availability to meet current and future electricity demand. These projects serve both household and business power supply, as well as supporting the strategic infrastructure planned for the region.
