en.Wedoany.com Reported - Polish railway infrastructure manager Polskie Linie Kolejowe (PLK) has signed a contract worth €302.7 million (PLN 1.3 billion) for the construction of a new railway bridge over the Vistula River in the town of Góra Kalwaria. This investment aims to increase operating speeds on the Czachówek–Pilawa line.

The contract was awarded to a consortium comprising INTOP Infrastruktura, INTOP, Trakcja, and WKS Grybów, with investment funding from the EU's CEF2 and CEF 2 Military Mobility instruments.

The consortium will be responsible for developing the technical design and carrying out the actual construction. The modernization covers a 32-kilometer section of Railway Line No. 12 from Czachówek Wschodni station to Pilawa, involving tracks, turnouts, overhead contact lines, and railway traffic control systems. Currently, this line is primarily used by freight trains, with passenger services only operating as far as Góra Kalwaria on the Czachówek–Góra Kalwaria section. Upon project completion, passenger services will be restored along the entire modernized section, allowing both passenger and freight trains to operate at speeds of up to 120 km/h.

Infrastructure Minister Dariusz Klimczak stated that the contract signed today is another important step in the modernization and development of the Polish railway network. The investment on the Czachówek Wschodni–Pilawa section, together with the new railway bridge over the Vistula River in Góra Kalwaria, will improve transport accessibility in the region, increase the capacity of this strategic line, and restore passenger traffic along the entire modernized route. With European funding, Poland is developing a modern railway serving both passengers and the economy.

The project for the new Vistula River railway bridge is necessary because the current crossing is a single-track structure. The new bridge will be built approximately 14 meters north of the existing bridge and will be a double-track structure. The new structure, measuring 630.5 meters in length and 18.26 meters in width, will increase line capacity and eliminate one of the most significant bottlenecks on this route. Trains will continue to operate on the existing bridge until the new structure is put into service. The new project also includes widened pedestrian and bicycle paths.

Investment Director Marcin Mochocki stated that this is a key investment for the Warsaw freight railway ring line and for restoring regular passenger services along the entire line. PLK is consistently advancing the modernization of Line No. 12, with plans to sign another contract in the coming weeks covering the next section of the line, from Skierniewice to Czachówek.

As part of the project, 50 engineering structures will be rebuilt or newly constructed, and level crossings and roads near the line will be modernized. Additionally, a new signal control center will be built in Góra Kalwaria, and the railway traffic control system will be upgraded to modern operational management standards.

Existing stations and stops will receive new platforms adapted to the needs of all passengers, including those with reduced mobility. The platforms will be equipped with shelters, benches, energy-efficient lighting, tactile guidance strips, and clear passenger information boards.

The investment is scheduled for completion in 2029, with expected benefits including improved accessibility of railway services, reduced travel times, enhanced railway and road safety, and a strengthened role for rail transport as an environmentally friendly mode of travel.
