en.Wedoany.com Reported - The Argentine government has officially unveiled the winning bids for the Alma SADI energy storage tender, through which it plans to deploy battery energy storage systems (BESS) at strategic nodes of the Argentine Interconnection System (SADI). The Secretariat of Energy, under the Ministry of Economy, approved the results via Resolution No. 155/2026, concluding the process launched in March of this year to introduce storage facilities in areas outside the Buenos Aires Metropolitan Area (AMBA).

The tender ultimately allocated 700.5 MW of capacity across 20 projects awarded to five companies. Genneia won seven projects, DQD Energy secured eight, 360 Energy Solar obtained three, and Aluar and Intermepro each won one. According to official estimates, the total investment in the first phase amounts to approximately $700 million.

The awarded projects will be distributed across seven regions nationwide, specifically: 185 MW in Buenos Aires Province; 150 MW in the Northwest Region (NOA); 161.5 MW in the Northeast Region Chaco-Formosa (NEA Chaco-Formosa); 50 MW in the Northeast Region Misiones-Corrientes (NEA Misiones-Corrientes); 50 MW in the Littoral Region Entre Ríos (Litoral Entre Ríos); 36 MW in the Littoral Region Santa Fe (Litoral Santa Fe); and 68 MW in the Pampa Region (Pampa).

This decision is based on a tender process that saw strong participation from the private sector. On May 27, the Argentine Wholesale Electricity Market Management Company (CAMMESA) received as many as 235 technical bids, totaling 8,338 MW of capacity—more than 11 times the tender's target of 700 MW. Following technical screening and the opening of economic bids on June 24, CAMMESA completed a pre-award report, providing the basis for the final official awards.

The initial goal of the Alma SADI tender was to introduce battery storage at key nodes in regions including the Northwest, Northeast, Central, Littoral, Cuyo, and Buenos Aires Province (excluding AMBA). In subsequent stages, CAMMESA evaluated a total of 232 bids and opened the economic phase. This tender is a continuation of the AlmaGBA program—Argentina's first large-scale storage tender, which targeted key nodes in the Buenos Aires Metropolitan Area and ultimately awarded 713 MW of capacity, exceeding the initial 500 MW target, with two additional contracts (totaling 46 MW) added to the first allocation of 667 MW.

The Secretariat of Energy noted that battery systems, with their ability to respond quickly to load changes, provide flexibility for grid dispatch and increase operating reserves to enhance system security. The purpose of introducing storage is to reduce the risk of power outages and improve the quality of electricity service in areas with transmission constraints or where supply reliability needs to be strengthened. Alma SADI is part of an overall plan initiated by the national government in 2024 to alleviate transmission bottlenecks and operational limitations. The awarded projects will subsequently sign corresponding storage agreements with CAMMESA.
