en.Wedoany.com Reported - Croatian energy company INA has completed the civil and installation works for a solar power plant at its refinery in the city of Rijeka. The photovoltaic installation, with a peak capacity of 11 megawatts, is a key component of Croatia's first green hydrogen production electrolyzer project.

INA stated that final testing and necessary technical activities are still required before the solar power plant becomes operational. By completing the engineering and mechanical components, the company has met the initial deadlines stipulated in the co-financing agreement with the government. INA received a project grant of 15 million euros from the National Recovery and Resilience Plan (NRRP, known in Croatian as NPOO).
Končar is the main contractor for this investment, which totals 61 million euros. Installation of the 10 MW electrolyzer is also underway. The facility's planned annual green hydrogen production capacity is approximately 1,500 tons, and the company expects the first green hydrogen molecules to be produced in 2027. This green hydrogen will be marketed, primarily for use in the transportation sector, as well as in the refinery's production processes.
Zsuzsanna Ortutay, President of the Management Board of INA, stated that the renewable hydrogen production project is one of their key strategic investments, laying the foundation for developing new sustainable energy solutions, helping to reduce greenhouse gas emissions, and enhancing the sustainability of refinery operations. Gordan Kolak, President of the Management Board of Končar, stated that the completion of the first phase of the project confirms the expertise and dedication of the participating teams and also demonstrates the successful collaboration between the two parties on this initiative, setting a new standard for the application of sustainable energy technologies. He believes that domestic knowledge, experience, and industrial capabilities can successfully meet the most complex requirements of the energy transition.
