Spanning over 2 kilometers, the project includes the construction of a fully segregated cycle lane, upgraded footways, and new pedestrian crossings. Several busy junctions along the route will be improved, involving Leeds Street, Burlington Street, Boundary Street, and Sandhills Lane. As part of the scheme, the carriageway will be resurfaced, aiming to provide a smoother travel experience for road users while optimizing the overall layout for walking, wheelchair users, and cyclists.

Improving road safety and reducing the number of collisions along the corridor are key objectives of the plan. In September 2024, initial proposals were presented to residents, with Liverpool City Council reporting that 81% of respondents supported the plan. Based on feedback, the design has been further developed and is ready to proceed, pending cabinet approval.

The project is part of the Liverpool City Region Combined Authority's Local Cycling and Walking Infrastructure Plan (LCWIP), which aims to create a network of improved active travel routes across the region. Partially funded by Active Travel England, construction is expected to begin this autumn if approved. The council stated that these improvements will provide safer and more convenient routes, supporting greater travel choices for people in this area of Liverpool.
