en.Wedoany.com Reported - Indian Union Minister of Railways Ashwini Vaishnaw stated that the high-speed rail corridor connecting Ahmedabad and Mumbai is planned to be completed by the end of 2029. Vaishnaw made this statement after inspecting multiple ongoing railway projects in Ahmedabad and provided updates on key work progress for the Mumbai-Ahmedabad High-Speed Rail project. He noted that construction is progressing rapidly and on schedule, ensuring timely completion.

Vaishnaw said that 80% of the work in the Gujarat section has been completed, and the network is being developed in phases. The first operational segment connecting Surat and Bilimora is planned to open next year, marking a significant milestone for regional connectivity. During his one-day inspection, the minister visited construction sites, interacted with engineers and construction teams at the Ahmedabad Bullet Train Station, and reviewed the project execution plan.
Officials briefed Vaishnaw on the redevelopment plan for Ahmedabad Railway Station and the master plan for Asarva Railway Station. The latter will be transformed into a modern transportation hub with enhanced passenger facilities and better urban connectivity. The minister reviewed plans to extend Sabarmati Station Road and improve access routes around Shahpur to ensure smoother passenger movement. He also announced that the Omnagar underpass will be completed before the upcoming Navratri festival to ease local traffic flow.
The inspection covered broader railway infrastructure and development plans for the city, including assessments of construction quality, timelines, and urban integration measures. Vaishnaw emphasized the importance of inter-agency coordination to meet the end-of-2029 deadline and urged teams to maintain progress while ensuring safety and standards. Authorities stated that continuous monitoring and phased commissioning will guide the transition of the entire corridor from construction to operation.
