en.Wedoany.com Reported - H2BE and INEOS have announced that they have reached an agreement on preliminary commercial terms for the procurement of low-carbon hydrogen, aimed at supporting INEOS Project One in building Europe's first zero-carbon steam cracker. The main construction of the Fluxys hydrogen pipeline from Ghent to Antwerp is largely complete, and this agreement establishes a commercial foundation for ENGIE and Equinor to produce hydrogen and supply it to INEOS.

This anchor agreement will promote the development of a broader low-carbon industrial ecosystem in Belgium, with the project having received support from the Flemish government and the European Union. The H2BE project can assist Project One in completing its decarbonization transformation, while also attracting additional investment across the entire industrial chain, including the construction of new hydrogen production facilities and the improvement of hydrogen-related supporting infrastructure. Furthermore, the carbon dioxide captured by the H2BE project will form substantial reserves, providing a foundation for subsequent investment decisions regarding Belgium's carbon capture and storage hub.
Low-carbon hydrogen is a key pathway for industrial emission reduction, capable of maintaining the long-term competitive advantage of Belgium's chemical industry. This cooperation also aligns with the requirements of the VOKA-AKT joint declaration on the carbon capture industrial chain, signed jointly by the Flemish and Walloon regional governments.
