en.Wedoany.com Reported - ABB has launched the ABB Ability Field Information Manager (FIM) 3.5 platform, which automates firmware updates for field devices in industrial operations, reducing a process that previously took days to just a few hours, while enhancing cybersecurity and easing the workload of maintenance teams.
The core capability of the new version lies in executing batch firmware updates in an automated, vendor-independent manner, whereas traditional methods require manual intervention for each device. This enables enterprises to reduce operational risks, meet cybersecurity compliance requirements, and free up teams to focus on more strategic activities such as process optimization and predictive maintenance.
FIM 3.5 also integrates the industry's first native Software Update Plugin (SUP) based on the Field Device Integrator (FDI). This feature allows manufacturers to provide standardized firmware packages with integrated update logic, simplifying the batch update process and supporting background execution without significant operational impact.
The platform is fully integrated into the ABB Ability System 800xA and Symphony Plus DCS systems, further improving production efficiency through features such as automated testing during commissioning and optimized device lifecycle management.
Stefan Basenach, Senior Vice President of ABB Automation Technologies, stated that the growing number of connected devices deployed by industrial organizations creates new opportunities for performance enhancement but also increases the complexity of lifecycle management. Field Information Manager 3.5 helps customers manage this complexity by automating device commissioning, maintenance, and firmware updates. Reducing manual work and strengthening cybersecurity readiness enables teams to dedicate more time to improving plant performance, reliability, and efficiency.
