en.Wedoany.com Reported - The UK government has confirmed it will expand the Cladding Safety Scheme to provide new funding for remediation works on buildings under 11 metres in height that pose serious fire safety risks. The funding will be prioritised to eliminate life safety hazards.
Serious cladding issues are relatively rare in buildings under 11 metres, which are not covered by leaseholder protection provisions and were previously ineligible for funding. The Ministry of Housing, Communities and Local Government (MHCLG) stated that this move will help protect leaseholders from cost burdens while improving building safety, though the specific amount of new funding has not yet been announced.

The MHCLG said the initiative, first proposed in the Remediation Acceleration Plan, is part of a broader policy change. The government will prioritise buildings based on the level of risk they pose to residents rather than their height.
The government also confirmed several other building safety improvements, including plans to establish a new single building regulator to streamline the process for issuing building assessment certificates and provide clearer guidance for building owners. Additionally, the government plans to consult on simplifying emergency works procedures.
Building Safety Minister Samantha Dixon said residents should not have to worry about living in homes with dangerous flammable cladding simply because their building's height does not qualify for funding. The government is taking action to prioritise buildings that pose the greatest risk to life, while streamlining processes to minimise delays and clarify responsibilities.
